Contact ArtistQuestions & My Answers

Welcome to Robert Exter’s Artist Blog.

Those of you interested in police art, please feel free to make your comments. I have two websites,  www.policecompositeartist.com and www.missingjohndoe.com that display work that has been used successfully by law enforcement. I also like to help other artists by answering questions they might have regarding sketch work or other artwork mediums I have experience with. If you would like to ask a question, contact me via email. I will answer you when I can, and if it is interesting I will post your comment with my answer on this blog. Your email address will not be posted.

Quite a few times over the last 30 years, my artwork has been used to find people. Mostly I am a portrait artist, which has been my main form of income. Even though portraits are usually done with the aid of seeing the subject being drawn, or in other words a live sitting, sometimes that is not possible. Quite often I have been asked to work from photographs, sometimes because the person does not want to pose, or most often because the subject has passed away. Some portraits are not in good shape, which is why someone like me would be asked to create a better image from the poor one. This exercise of ability has made me valuable to investigations, as it is not easy to convey an effective image to the public eye that will speed up an investigation to help solve a mystery. Let me paste a few paragraphs from a brochure of mine:

Robert Exter, an accomplished portrait artist, works in all mediums–oil, watercolor, acrylic, and pencil.  He is most recognized for his forensic talents. His law enforcement portrayals of potential criminal suspects have been exhibited in the “who Done It’ display created for students by The Carnegie Science Foundation.  Mr. Exter’s work is also recognized in textbooks used in training at the FBI Academy in Quantico Virginia.

Mr. Exter, a Redding resident, is currently creating an on-line website centralizing forensic art accessibility to all law enforcement entities, significantly reducing the costs involved in identifying miscreant behavior.

Robert Exter welcomes your participation as he conducts his art.  He is quick, assured, and talented.  You will be entranced by his skill and craftsmanship.

The paragraphs above are to entice interest in my workshops.
